<p>圣人仰观俯察,审其如此,故晋卦坤下离上,以证日出于地也。又明夷之卦,离下坤上,以证日入于地也。又需卦乾下坎上,此亦天入水中之象也。天为金,金水相生之物也。天出入水中,当有何损,而谓为不可乎?然则天之出入水中,无复疑矣。又今视诸星出于东者,初但去地少许耳。渐而西行,先径人上,后遂转西而下焉,不旁旋也。其先在西之星,亦稍下而没,无北转者,日之出入亦然。若谓天如磨右转者,众星日月,宜随天而回,初在于东,次经于南,次到于西,次及于北,而复还于东,不应横过去也。今日出于东,冉冉转上,及其入西,亦复渐渐稍下,都不绕北边去,了了如此,王生必固谓为不然者,疏矣。今日径千里,其中足以当小星之数十也。若日以转远之故,但当光曜不能复来照及人耳。宜犹望见其体,不应都失其所在也。日光既盛,其体又大于星,今见极北之小星,而不见日之在北者,明其不北行也。若曰以转远之故,不复可见,其北入之间,应当稍小,而日方入之时,反乃更大,此非转远之徵也。王生以火炬喻日,吾亦将借子之矛,以刺子之<盾友>焉。把火之人,去人转远,其光转微,而日月自出至入,不渐小也。王生以火喻之,谬矣。又日之入西方,视之稍稍去,初尚有半,如横破镜之状,须臾沦没矣。若如王生之言,日转北去者,其北都没之顷,宜先如竖破镜之状,不应如横破镜也。如此言之,日入北方,不亦孤孑乎?又月之光微,不及日远矣。月盛之时,虽有重云蔽之,不见月体,而夕犹朗然,是月光犹从云中而照外也。日若绕西及北者,其光故应如月在云中之状,不得夜便大暗也。又日入则星月出焉,明知天以日月分主昼夜,相代而照也。若日常出者,不应日始入,而星月出也。</p>
